It's All About The Characters

People who don't understand the genre tend to think that comic and sci-fi entertainment is all about superpowers, costumes, and action. And that's certainly part of it!

But if that's all it was, we wouldn't keep coming back for more.

Comic and sci-fi entertainment is a fundamentally character driven medium. That's the fascination, and without well rounded three-dimensional characters, no amount of action can make it good.

The reason we immerse ourselves in these stories is to find out what happens next. The characters become so important to us, that we simply have to know. They're like friends, and the worlds they inhabit, a secret getaway built exclusively for us.

As exciting and attention grabbing as style and action can be, it's the frosting...

The figurative icing on the cake! It's flashy, it's bold, but without the cake, it's incomplete. As a writer, I always put character and story before style and action. I want the worlds I create to be deep and immersive. And I want the audience to care about them just as much as I do.
